Speaker Tim Hale, Sr Vice President - Fossil

Event Description

This is the tale of an amazing adventure - of how a Dallas start-up watch company grew into an international sensation.  Armed with a very non-traditional, yet progressive approach to marketing, Fossil has experienced consistent and vibrant results, even during challenging economic times. By staying focused on the brand and believing in the power of storytelling Fossil has found a unique and powerful way to connect to the consumer.

Join Tim Hale, SR Vice President of Fossil, as he shares the story of this very unorthodox journey, and how the company is looking forward.  Tim will share his thoughts on:

  • The full ecosystem of a fashion/consumer brand
  • Fossil’s embracing of social media – both the upside and downside
  • The advantages of working with an in-house organization

Don’t be late for this very important date!

Speaker Tim Hale, Sr Vice President - Fossil

Biography

Tim Hale is a native Texan, born just 60 miles north of Dallas, where he is now employed as the Sr. Vice President of Design Management and Marketing at Fossil, a leading fashion accessories design/manufacturing label. He attended Baylor University, and graduated in 1984 with a BFA/Communication Design degree. Motivated by desire to grow as a designer, Tim moved to Dallas in 1985 and started an in-house design and production studio for an embroidery specialty manufacturer. In 1987 Tim joined Fossil to start and head up the in-house design department. The relationship that followed has been a success story on many fronts. Most importantly, the now 21 year relationship has shown the tremendous results that can be realized when design is used in harmony with business to achieve strategic goals.

Tim’s work has appeared frequently in CA, Print, HOW, Graphis, The AR 100, Graphic Design, USA & Step by Step Magazines. He has been recognized by the AIGA and the New York Art Directors Club and has appeared as a speaker on behalf of Strathmore Paper, for the HOW Design Conference, AIGA, North Texas Business Committee for the Arts, Art Director’s Club of Houston and the Design Management Institute. He has also served as a competition juror for the ID Magazine Design Annual, Type Directors Club of New York, Appleton Paper and the Communication Arts Magazine Design Annual. Some of his packaging work has been selected for inclusion in the permanent collection of the Museum of Architecture & Design in Chicago.

Tim cites his most notable accomplishments to be the concept of using tin packaging for Fossil Watches and creating a successful, progressive, in-house environment that strives to create strong branding for the company, while developing and recognizing the creative team and individual designers responsible.

The Studio staff currently numbers 70+ members and is responsible for the design and production of packaging, graphics and on/off-line marketing collateral for 5 divisions of Fossil Branded product. It is also responsible for the same duties for at least a dozen large and small private label branded accounts. The Studio’s technical capabilities include in-house pre-press & color management, fully staffed photo studio with digital and traditional photography, multi-media development, web authoring, Video Post, Motion graphics, 3D Cad design and 3D prototyping capabilities.

Tim resides in Sherman, Texas with his wife and has 3 children - 2 in college, one of which is studying Graphic Design and the third, a recent graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography and now an Art Director in the Dallas area.
